What You Can Do to Help Climate Change

Climate change is a serious problem, but if everyone does a little bit to help the environment we could lessen our footprint. Below is a list of simple and easy ways to help.

Gardening: gardening is a great way to help the environment; by growing your own food, you don’t waste money or fuel going to the store that could be multiple miles away.
How to get started: If you don’t have a garden already, it is easy to get started. You don’t need a large garden, but it can be whatever size you want. Plan where you want your garden, (make sure it is in a sunny spot!) Clear any weeds or grass, add some soil. Buy and plant seeds, preferably organic and GMO free. Water and weed! When plants are ready, harvest, and enjoy!

Composting: Just by composting you can help the environment a lot. Over forty percent of food goes to waste in the U.S. and over 97% of food waste generated ends up in landfills.  A total 20% of what goes into landfills is food. If more people start composting, we can help those numbers decrease.
How to get started: Find a suitable bucket or buy one to put in your kitchen (under your sink is a great place to keep it.) When prepping food or when washing dishes collect the food scrapes and put them in the bucket, when it is full, designate a spot to dump it. In the gardening season you can spread compost on your gardens, or look up other uses that would work well for you.

Recycling: Have you ever heard of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle? If you can't reuse something, recycle it! Half of the garbage Americans throw out can be recycled.
How to get started: Find a recycling center closest to you, (finding out there regulations is recommended) Collect recyclables such has aluminum cans, glass, plastic, paper, and more!

This and that: Turn off the water when brushing your teeth, take a shower instead of a  bath (a bath uses almost twice as much water). Don’t buy plastic water bottles, use both sides of paper, and buy from a second hand store when possible. Buy local, turn down your thermostat, and simply turn of lights and other appliances whenever they are not being used.

By doing some or all of the above, you can help the environment a lot! Look online for more ideas, tell your friends, get them to help the environment to!
